Favourite Watch Posts of 2014: The end of 2014 is nigh and we’ve shared some interesting watch posts with you. So with that in mind, we thought we’d recap on some of our favourite watch posts of 2014. We’ve looked at, wrote and even had our hands-on some very exquisite timepieces from some of the worlds most renowned watch brands. We hope to bring you more of the same stuff in 2015. OMEGA SPEEDMASTER: WHY OWNING A CHRONOGRAPH TIMEPIECE HAS ITS MERITS
Do you remember at the beginning of the year that story I told about my Speedmaster and how useful chronographs can be? It was at this point I realised that this timepiece will forever be in my collection and I’m not the only person to have used their Speedmaster for this purpose. A.LANGE & SÖHNE LANGEMATIK PERPETUAL
The A.Lange & Söhne Langematik Perpetual was a piece we managed to get our hands on during our Lange manufactory visit back in September. But what made me add this to the list is the sheer precision of this timepiece. The Langematik really opened my, and hopefully your, eyes to the fact that as good as Lange is at creating chronographs they are also just as masterful at creating perpetual calendars. PATEK PHILIPPE SPLIT-SECONDS MONOPUSHER CHRONOGRAPH REF. 5950A
Seldom does Patek Philippe create grand complications in stainless steel but when they do, these timepieces instantly become coveted and it was no different with the 5950A. Though this piece was released a few years ago, we managed to get our hands on one and of course had to share it with you. Read the full post
A 1940S VACHERON CONSTANTIN CHRONOGRAPH REFERENCE 4178
We dropped into the Vacheron boutique on Bond Street a few months back and came across this absolute gem. Now, one could be mistaken for thinking that this timepiece was just there to showcase Vacheron’s historical prowess but you’d be wrong. Selected Vacheron boutiques actually sell vintage timepieces through a program they call ‘Collectionneaurs’ and this stunning 4178 was a part of it! Read the full post
F.P. JOURNE CHRONOMETRE OPTIMUM
We’ve had our eye on F.P. Journe for sometime and until recently never really got our hands on some of Francois-Jean’s exquisite timepieces. That all changed when we were invited to shoot a few of their pieces at William & Son, Mayfair. F.P. Journe’s are something special and are crafted for the true wristwatch connoisseur but this only really becomes evident when you look at the whole picture. Read the full post
THREE-DAY VISIT TO A.LANGE & SÖHNE IN GLASHÜTTE, DRESDEN
Now, this was my first ever visit to a watch manufacture and boy was it good. This was a thoroughly enjoyable experience and one that will stay with me forever. I’ve been a huge admirer of A.Lange & Söhne watches for some time and seeing the inner sanctum of where these masterpieces are created was just jaw dropping and it has given me greater appreciation of watchmaking in general. MARCUS’ VINTAGE AUDEMARS PIGUET CHRONOGRAPH COLLECTION
This was our second instalment in the ‘It’s Complicated’ series and in this post we featured just a snippet of Marcus of Marcus Watches private vintage Audemars Piguet chronograph collection. Another independent brand we’ve admired from afar and only really got up close with them when we visited this years Baselworld watch fair. Laurent Ferrier’s timepieces are sculpted pieces of art and their allure is in their simplicity but the only way to truly understand Laurent Ferrier as a company is to understand Laurent Ferrier the watchmaker. OMEGA SEAMASTER 300 MASTER CO-AXIAL
Last but not least, there was no way we could leave this off the list of our favourite watch posts of 2014. This extensive review was our most read post of 2014 and of course it’s not hard to see why. Omega had recaptured an absolute diving legend (CK2913) in the form of this new Seamaster 300 Master Co-Axial, which looks so downright cool. From the moment Omega teased the masses with an image of the new Seamaster 300, it had Omega fans minds working overtime. Read the full post
