This 18yo Glenlivet scotch from the Highland region of Banffshire, is simply sublime. I first tasted it while my wife and I were celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary (always a good time to try a new whisky). On the nose: you’ll be able to smell lovely sherry/raisin notes, followed up by vanilla, toffee apple and spices. There are also some floral and oak lingering on the end. On the palate: those flavours of sherry and vanilla will be confirmed, with those crisp toffee apple notes coming through and some underlying oak. The finish: is very, very smooth – with a very little alcohol kick and a delightful sweet finish.
The verdict: A very gorgeous and luxurious scotch whisky, that is a little too easy to drink but every sip will be savoured. As with all single malt scotches – this is best enjoyed straight, or with a very small amount of mineral water to allow the flavours to breathe.
The Glenlivet 18 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky can be found online at TWE for approximately £62 – which I think for this age of scotch is rather well priced.
