Suntory Yamazaki 12 Year Old Japanese Single Malt: A few weeks back we posted our thoughts along with some tasting notes on a 17 year old Suntory Hibiki. Our first whisky post of 2014 is on another Suntory whisky that Mr. Tatsuya also let us sample but this time, it’s a single malt… On the nose: you get a burst of crisp, red apples coupled with cinnamon. You’ll also get a waft of sweet treacle and a hint of jasmine tea. On the palate: those notes of fresh, crisp, red apples and jasmine tea will be confirmed. Followed up with orange, cinnamon and a bit of clove spice. There is also some lingering oaky notes in there too. The finish: is very, very smooth and warming but quite dry and woody, with some lingering pineapples.
The verdict: Thoroughly enjoyed the amazing fruity notes of this awesome Japanese single malt whisky. You may think this 12 year old Suntory Yamazaki is a little pricey but it is well worth it. As with all single malt scotches – this is best enjoyed straight, or with a very small amount of mineral water to allow the flavours to breathe.
