Grant’s 25 Year Old Blended Scotch: We’ve never written any tasting notes on Grant’s here before but this one is a little bit special. This well aged 25 year old Grant’s deserves some respect! Originally a travel exclusive scotch that hit the
whisky shops airports in late 2012. On the nose: You’ll get a beautiful waft of sweet fruits: apples, peaches, pears and raisins. Swiftly followed by honey and some light spices. On the palate: those sweet and fruity notes will be confirmed. You’ll taste hints of liquorice and cinnamon with some other spicy notes also kicking around in there. Probably the one note that was unexpected but gratefully received was the lingering peat. The finish: is very smooth, oaky and still that peaty note lingers.
The verdict: This blended malt scotch whisky, which incorporates grain from the Girvan distillery, is very rich and has quite a bit of depth. The unexpected notes were a delight and I’d say this is probably the pinnacle of the Grant’s range. Although this is not a single malt scotch, it has to be enjoyed straight, or with a very small amount of mineral water to allow the flavours to breathe and I strongly suggest doing both – as this will open the door to the plethora of notes available.
