This 10yo Glenmorangie scotch from the Highland region of Ross-shire, is superb. It may lack a little bit of a kick for some but it is one that can be enjoyed and easily shared among friends. On the nose: you’ll be able to smell buttery caramel, spices, vanilla and floral notes. Hints of treacle and apples, slightly malty notes with a light whiff of citrus. On the palate: you’ll be able to taste butterscotch, toffee and apple flavours emerging. There’s also a taste of mixed spices, almonds and vanilla with a lovely milky texture. The finish: is very smooth and warming – with a very little alcohol kick and a delightful lingering taste of honey.
The verdict: A very easy-going scotch whisky, with bags of notes. As with all single malt scotches – this is best enjoyed straight, or with a very small amount of mineral water to allow the flavours to breathe. As it is such a smooth whisky, I’d suggest you, sit back, relax and light up a Hoyo de Monterrey.
