This Glen Garioch Virgin Oak scotch from the Highland region of Garioch, is the very first release of Glen Garioch fully matured in Virgin North American White Oak Casks and it is unlike anything I have tasted. On the nose: you’ll be able to smell rich, buttery, dark chocolate, orange and oak. There are also some malty notes and spices that linger. On the palate: those flavours of oak will be confirmed, with the bitter taste of dark chocolate making its presence known – topped off with the tangy taste of marmalade and treacle. The finish: is very smooth – with little alcohol kick and a delightful warm chocolate cake finish.
The verdict: Wow! I was completely blown away by this Artisanal Small Batch Release scotch, the flavours are so rich and distinct. I found myself going back for more and more. As with all single malt scotches – this is best enjoyed straight, or with a very small amount of mineral water to allow the flavours to breathe. I would really suggest to just drink this on its lonesome!
Glen Garioch Virgin Oak Single Malt Scotch Whisky can be found online at The Whisky Shop for approximately £70 – which I’m sure once you’ve tasted it, will agree it is rather well priced.
