Glenfiddich Rich Oak Single Malt Scotch : This Glenfiddich single malt scotch is matured for 14 years and then delicately finished in new American (Louisville) & Spanish (Jerez) oak, which delivers more complex and richer fruit flavours. On the nose: you’ll get a strong waft of mixed fruits, followed by spices and vanilla. You’ll also discover a bit of caramel starts to creep in and a small amount of pink apples – then you’ll get that beautiful smell of oak! On the palate: those notes of vanilla, caramel and spices will be confirmed. It is also very sweet and has a hint of almonds. Then once those flavours start to peter out the oak will make it’s presence known. The finish: is very smooth with a slight tingle.
The verdict: This is an excellent light and fruity scotch whisky, that’ll be best enjoyed with a nice, light cigar or just on its lonesome. As with all single malt scotches – this is best enjoyed straight, or with a very small amount of mineral water to allow the flavours to breathe. However, with this particular scotch, if you are planning to enjoy it without any mineral water – leave it to breathe for a few minutes to open up those flavours.
