Duthies Ledaig 16 Year Old Single Malt Scotch – Hmm, where to start? This, champagne coloured, cask strength 16yo whisky is very peculiar! On the nose you’ll get a very intense smokey/peaty waft with hints of a salty nature and some TCP notes creeping in. On the palate, it is surprisingly sweet – sounds crazy but it tastes like the smell of tarmac (which I actually do like) with that taste of TCP creeping in again, strange? The finish is quite smooth and warming, with hints of elderflower that has somehow been dragged through tar….?
In summary – a very intriguing Scotch, full of wonderful notes and an even more interesting taste, that will be best appreciated on its own or with a very small amount of water to allow the flavours to breathe as always. Not my favourite Duthies but if you are a lover of peaty whiskies, a must try!
